Recording Session: Rhoads School Alumni

In the afternoon of March 11, 2017, the Linda Mae Mahon Lema Foundation joined a conversation between six former students of the Rhoads one-room schoolhouse. The participants were Lesley Blodgett Ostman, Joan Hahn Holt, Betty Augustine Woolever, Leo Fassler, Melba Ledbetter Mosher, and Refugio Martinez. They represented Rhoads School graduating classes from 1941 to 1947. As with other children in the area, after completing their schooling at the Rhoads School, they went on to high school. All except Joan graduated from Elk Grove Union High School. Joan graduated from McClatchy High School in Sacramento. The LMML Foundation Receives a Grant From the City of Elk Grove

At the Elk Grove City Council meeting on March 22, 2017, the Council unanimously approved the Linda Mae Mahon Lema Foundation request for a Community Service Grant of $10,240 for Fiscal Year 2017-2018. These funds will be used exclusively to make new recordings of local Elk Grove histories as well as to preserve existing oral history recordings, principally, the Elizabeth Pinkerton Collection. The processes employed by the Foundation for both types of recording activities include: • Original taping and conversion of existing tapes in current formats • Editing the raw tapings to create podcasts • Transcribing the podcasts into written form • Archiving both podcasts and transcriptions for tran

The LMML Foundation Receives a Grant from Sacramento County

In February, the Linda Mae Mahon Lema Foundation was awarded a Sacramento County Neighborhood Development Grant, courtesy of Supervisor Don Notolli, in the amount of $2,500 to underwrite the live performance at our LMML Foundation Performance and Dinner on September 30, 2017. Supervisor Notolli has been an early and staunch supporter of the LMML Foundation’s mission to capture and share oral histories of the Greater Area of Elk Grove, and to bring those stories to life through the visual and performing arts.
